About unique fine foods
Unique Fine Foods is an importer and distributer of premium quality foods and was founded in 1999 by Jeremy Blower. The business is run today by Jeremy and his daughter Amelia Wellings-Thomas and supported by a dedicated team based in London and Italy.
We pride themselves on sourcing the very best quality ingredients and food with provenance from Italy, France and around the world for the UK market. We supply both our own brand UniqueItalia products an own-label products to the major UK supermarkets.
Our A grade BRC certification demonstrates our commitment to the quality and traceability.
Jeremy Blower worked in the food business for many years but always had an ambition to run his own business. A chance introduction to a an Italian farmer who grew and preserved organic vegetables led to the formation of Unique Fine Foods. Jeremy brought samples, including organic sun-dried tomatoes, home from Italy in his suitcase and took them to a buyer at Sainsbury’s. One week later he received a call to say she would list them all. This was at a time when consumer demand for speciality organic products was growing and there was not available in the UK market .
Since then we have been predicting the latest trends in food, watching fashions set by leading chefs, exploring European food markets and seeking out innovative product development from our suppliers. For example when we saw the UK’s obsession with spiralised courgettes, or courgetti, we worked with our Italian partners to find a way to dry and preserve courgetti as a healthy store cupboard alternative to spiralising at home.
How we work with our suppliers
We work hand-in-hand with our suppliers, several of which we have worked with for over fifteen years. We look for quality products, high standards of production and a balance of traditional skills and innovative methods. We support all our suppliers to work to UK Food Standards and achieve BRC certification.
Our main supplier in Puglia in southern Italy is a family business with over 60 years experience of cultivating, harvesting and preserving vegetables including tomatoes, artichokes, courgettes and peppers. They grow everything from seed, often preserving their own seeds, to guarantee the highest quality of vegetables. Vegetables are preserved on site within hours of being harvested.
We visit all our suppliers regularly and over the years many have become friends as well as suppliers.
